Disappearing Person Alerts

A social campaign developed with Snapchat and the Queensland Police. An effective and quick way to ensure the public is alerted when someone goes missing around them.

Every 20 minutes a teenager is reported missing in Australia.
The best chance of them being found is in the first 24 hours, with the general
public playing a vital role in providing information to police.
But traditional alerts were failing to reach to the public in time.

We created a new tool to assist Queensland Police with missing person investigations. Sent through Snapchat, Disappearing Person Alerts are geo-targeted messages that instantly inform the public when someone goes missing in a location near them.

Using the native functionality of Snapchat, the alert (disappearing after 10 seconds) communicates the vital information in an instantaneous and emotive message, ‘Help find John Citizen before he disappears.’

Gained over $2.1 million of earned media

The first alert was sent the day the campaign went live, the teenage girl was found within 24 hours

Since launch,  87% of alerts have assisted in the person being found
